About me
I studied Health Psychology at the Open University of the Netherlands and earned my PhD at the University of Twente, focusing on eating disorders and mental well-being. My PhD research was supervised by Gerben Westerhof, Professor of Narrative Psychology and Technology, and Ernst Bohlmeijer, Professor of Mental Health Promotion.
As a researcher in mental healthcare, I work with individuals facing various conditions, including eating disorders, autism, trauma, and psychosis-related disorders. My research centers on understanding recovery from the patient’s perspective and exploring how change unfolds within individuals.
A significant part of my personal journey has been guided by the teachings of Mataji, a spiritual teacher. For over 17 years, I have had the privilege of learning from her through inspiring and insightful Satsangs on the Vedas, spiritual truths, self-realization, and mental health. She has also provided continuous guidance through meditation lessons, personal advice, and retreats. I have been fortunate to accompany her on several visits to India, where I attended (advanced) courses on meditation.
I embrace all religions, believing that they ultimately lead to the same truth. At my core, I hold the conviction that everything is interconnected, or one and the same (Advaita), and that realizing our true nature is the ultimate path to follow.
In my work as a counselor, I aim first and foremost to understand your reality by truly listening. From there, I stand beside you to explore pathways for change where needed. This process focuses on behavioral change by cultivating self-knowledge, awareness and a compassionate or accepting attitude to support mental health and sustainable growth.
I do not rely on protocols but recognize that learning and practicing specific techniques can be highly beneficial for mental health. Depending on your needs, I incorporate behavioral, cognitive, mindfulness-based, breathing, and meditation exercises, as well as narrative techniques, into our work.
